Kundapur, Jul 30: “We eat unnecessary food in the name of science and become ignorant,” said Kutpadi Ayurveda College assistant professor Dr Ravikrishna S. He spoke as as resource person at a programme titled 'Sasyaamratha', introduction to traditional vegetable dishes held by Bandya Education Trust, Gurukula at Vakwadi, Gurukula on July 29.

“Man is the only living creature who spoils the environment in the name of development. Though we have natural medicine among us for all ailments, we get influenced by English medicine. We can maintain good health by consuming balanced food. Therefore, there should be attempts to look out for plants that are conducive to health,” he said.

Gurukula Education Institute founder B Appanna Hegde said that we need nothing if we follow food habits as per the seasons. “But we invite disasters because of western food.”

“Traditional consumption of food has decreased by the day. It is necessary to consume limited food. The programme is held every year for the last six years to introduce traditional food,” said Bandya Educational Institute joint executive Anupama S Shetty.

Every plant has medicinal property

“Every plant found in the environment has one medicinal property or the other. If there is poisonous substance in food, plantain leaf absorbs it. Eating betel leaf after meals helps in the purification of blood. There is no need to consume calcium tablets if we eat limestone,” said Dr Ravikrishna S.
