Udupi, Jul 17: Adani Group’s Udupi Power Corporation Limited flagged-off the flooring interlocking work for the premises of St Piyus Church located in the limits of Palimar gram panchayat recently. The work was kick started by way of bhoomi pooja, which was performed by Fr Rock D’Souza, parish priest of Palimar Church, Jeetendra Futrado, president of Palimar gram panchayat and Kishore Alva, joint president of Adani UPCL.
Performing the bhoomi pooja, Fr Rock told that every citizen in the world should contribute something for the development of society. He appreciated the development works executed by Adani under its CSR in the surrounding villages. He opined that the proper flooring facility in the church premises will facilitate thousands of devotees coming to the church for prayer.
Speaking on the occasion, Alva told that Palimar gram panchayat has been declared a special CSR grant of Rs 3 crore for a period of 3 years and till date Adani has executed 3 major development works worth Rs 42 lac in Palimar villages as per the Kriya Yojane of panchayat. In addition to the development works to Palimar church, concreting of dam road and Hoige road worth Rs 30 lac have been awarded the contract and very soon the works would be completed, Alva added. He further informed that the development of Berandi Katte to Nandikuru Road, Shambhavinagar Road and developments to Dhoomavati Temple would be taken-up in near future and they are in tendering process.
Later, social forestry programme was also actioned by Adani Foundation in the premises of church by way of plantation of sapling through Fr Rock and distribution of fruit bearing saplings to the devotees present on the occasion. Alva said that Palimar panchayat authorities have identified the land for plantation of trees, wherein Adani Foundation is going to have social forestry programme in the identified land and the planted trees would be taken care for a period of 3 years.
Jeetendra Futrado welcomed the gathering and thanked Adani UPCL for CSR activities.
Tiny Kutinho, vice-president of Palimar church, contractor David D’Souza, Adani UPCL’s AGM Girish Navada, senior manager Ravi R Jere, employees from Adani Foundation Vineet Anchan, Sukesh Suvarna and Anudeep Poojary were present on the occasion.
Forest officer Nagesh compered the programme, UPCL’s AGM Girish Navada delivered the welcome speech and Ravi R Jere delivered vote of thanks. Forest Officials Manjunath Naik and Abhilash, students and teaching faculty of Government Higher Primary School, Kemmendalu, Adani Foundation staff Sudheer Anchan, Dheeraj Devadiga, Anudeep Poojary, Shivaprasad Shetty, Vineet Anchan, Sukesh Suvarna and residents of UPCL Rehabilitation colony were present on the occasion.
