Kundapur: Chemical found in fish, people panic

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (MS)

Kundapur, Jul 14: A chemical was found to be mixed in the fish that was brought for selling at Mudoor near Jadkal here, on Friday July 13.

People who purchased this fish panicked as they saw the fish turning blue after some time. They have returned the fish to the seller. Around 3 kilograms of fish was found to have this issue.

The sellers, who were selling fish at Mudoor, are saying that they bought this fish from the wholesale market in Kundapur. They are saying that the fish was normal in colour when they purchased the same at Kundapur and turned blue after travelling a distance of around 40 km.

Bhaskar Basriberu, a resident of Mudoor, who brought this fish said, "On washing the fish I bought, a kind of foul smell emanated from it. I suspect there is some chemical mixed with the fish. If gullible people eat the same, who is responsible? I have thrown the fish into the garbage."

Vasudev Mudoor, a Dalit leader said, "Of late we have been hearing lots of complaints about chemical mixed in the fish. Today, the same is found in the fish that was brought for selling in our village. A thorough inquiry needs to be conducted with regards to this. Incidents of this kind, which affect the livelihood of fish sellers and the health of the general public should not recur. The concerned department should take action."

    We dont know what we are getting at present in the market,fish bazar.Fish doesnt turn blue when travelled some kilometers,but it wouldnot remain intact but braun.Instead of throwing into garbage,take some fish and go to lab to test the condition of fish.It is not normal blue colour at some places.It should show allover fish body.may be ice with sulfate?Please be vegetarian instead of eating chemicals and die before your time.second such fish may be fished in areas where more chemicals are flawn to see?or oil from tanker or old boats let in water.?Please investigate it .never mind some money has to be spend but clearance is much betteer.

    @Rita

    Are you aware of the safety of vegetables grown in India.
    Raw sewage, untreated waste of factory is used in growing, washing vegetables widely all over the country.

    There are also reports that not so fresh, cheap vegetables are used in Mlore and Bangalore based restaurants as well.

    TV9 reported some years ago, how dead chicken from huge poultry farms from outskirts are sold at just rs.35/= to many restaurants in Blore.

    People in India too have a wrong notion, that being vegetarian is safe.

    India as a whole does not monitor quality of food, nor sources of food consumed on such a huge scale.
