Udupi, Jul 14: 'Bahubali' a male camel, which used to entertain tourists to Malpe beach suddenly died on Friday July 1 afternoon.
Shatrughna Babu Rao from Barwani district, Madhya Pradesh, had engaged three camels at Malpe beach for almost ten years which were used for rides by visitors. The 14-year-old camel was named Kattappa, ten-year-old was named Bahubali, while the last one, which was eight, was named Rana. For the tourists, camels were an additional attraction at Malpe beach.
On Friday afternoon, Bahubali was grazing in a spot where shrubs and grass had grown. While grazing, it suddenly fell down, writhing in pain and died. The owner of the camel believes that a heart attack could have been the reason for its death. He said that this camel had been bought for price of Rs 1.2 lac ten months back from Madhya Pradesh.
The owner faced the problem of disposing the mortal remains of the animal which weighed 900 kg and had a height of seven feet. Some social workers from the town responded to his pleas and helped him to do the needful, it is gathered. Social workers like Nityananda Olakadu and Taranath Mesta Shiroor, as well as locals, Ganesh Mendon, Majunath, Dayanand Kola etc got together, arranged for a crane and helped its owner to bury the corpse.
