Madikeri, Jul 14: Three persons accused of murdering two persons and attempting robbery were awarded death sentence by a court here. Those pronounced guilty and awarded death sentence are H S Shivakumar, T V Shivakumar and Kumar from Mallenahalli village near Kushalnagar in the district.

The accused reportedly visited the house of Kochchunni in Mallenahalli village on February 11, 2016 and tried to commit robbery. During the robbery, Kochchunni and his grandson, Amritanand, were killed by the trio.

Kushalnagar police had registered the case, held investigation, and filed charge sheet. The first additional district and sessions court judge, D Pavanesh, pronounced the judgement, holding the accused guilty.

As the death sentence is granted to people when committing robbery, this judgement is subject to confirmation by the high court, which will check whether this is rarest of the rare case. Life term rigorous imprisonment has been awarded to all the three for trying to rob, and ten years rigorous imprisonment for possessing lethal arms, seven years imprisonment for trying to destroy evidence, apart from Rs 10,000 fine for these offences.
