Kolar, Jul 14: Over 20 students who fell ill after consuming sambar in which a lizard had fallen and died, stand admitted into hospitals. The children complained of vomitting and dysentery after having lunch provided to them under the government's hot lunch scheme.

The students who fell ill on Friday July 13 belong to the government higher primary school at Dodda Ponnandahalli in Bangarpet taluk.

After lunch, it came to the attention of the concerned that a lizard was in the sambar. 12 children were then admitted into the government hospital at Bangarpet, while the others were treated at Kasamudra government hospital.

Alleging that this blunder happened because of the staff involved with preparing the food under the programme, parents got angry. However, the doctors said that all the children have shown signs of complete recovery and that there is no reason for panic.

In a similar incident last year, children had fallen ill after consuming meals in which lizard had fallen at Doddur Karapanahalli school near here. The parents are incensed, as they feel that other schools should have taken more precautions in view of the Doddur Karapanahalli school incident.
