Mangaluru: Coexist by loving all in society, says bishop-elect Dr Peter Paul Saldanha

Mangaluru, Jul 13: “All are children of God. Therefore, all should mix freely and coexist without differences of religions and castes,” said Fr Peter Paul Saldanha, the new bishop-elect of Mangaluru.

He was addressing a meeting of the members of pastoral council in Mangaluru. The meeting is a gathering of the representatives of nearly three lac Catholics, parishes and Catholic organizations in Dakshina Kannada districts and Kasargod taluk.

“Uniting all is the work that is liked by God. Our work is to work sincerely. But making it a success is God's grace. Loving all is our duty as humans. Therefore, all Catholic leaders and representatives should work hard to unite all communities for harmony,” he said. He offered prayers to the soul of Michael D' Souza, brother of Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D' Souza who passed away on July 12.

Bishop of Shivamogga Fr Francis Serrao said that we should give importance to peace and work actively in organizations which promote communal harmony. “We should share the joy and sorrows of all communities and shower our love on them.” Vicar general Fr Denis Moras welcomed the bishop-elect. Fr Jochim Fernandes moderated the meeting.

Secretary of diocesan pastoral parishad M P Noronha said that the installation programme of new bishop will be held at Rosario Cathedral on September 15 at 9.30 am and urged everybody to attend it.

Fr Veeresh Lobo from Shimoga diocese was present.

    Mangalore always had the privilege of good Catholic leadership thru so many able and professional Bishops, including Bishop Aloysius, who will always extend his expertize to you for the success and prosperity of Mangalore Diocese. Mangalore was always blessed for nearly two centuries the presence of the Missionary Nuns and Priests who brought their professionalism in Education to India. Today it is a pride to witness so many reputed Catholic Schools, Colleges and Universities including Medical Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Nursing Colleges and several other reputable Institutions.

    The Catholic Diocese of Mangalore has always intervened in so many Cultural, Civic, Educational and Societal services and have contributed a great deal for the peace and harmony of the progressive City thru so many professional contributions that have helped Mangalore to grow and prosper.

    We have left Mangalore several decade ago, but we watch with a keen eye the progress of our vibrant City where Catholics give so much back to the society thru the spirit of patriotism and love for our Society. We have always been blessed with some of the fine Bishops, and we also have amongst us Bishop Aloysius who will render his help and guidance to you so that Mangalore will continue to grow and prosper thru our continued dedication of our faith, our culture, our language and most importantly our continued dedication to work together and strive for greater success of Mangalore as a "Smart City". We pray for your continued good health and happiness.

    Nothing new. Need of the hour is honest work done without expectations. Leading by example will bring unity for sure. Catholics of today are simply busy pouring concrete (uglification) on the beautiful (architectural) churches of course very honest work.
