Udupi, Jul 12: BJP district Raitha Morcha in a statement has stated that chief minister H D Kumaraswamy in the election manifesto had promised to waive all the loans of the farmers and free them from loans.
“He had also assured leaders of farmers before the budget that all the loans of farmers will be waived. It is ridiculous that he changes his language now and lays conditions that only the principal amount can be waived. It has given rise to suspicions regarding concern of the chief minister towards farmers.
“Most of the farmers in our district who borrowed short term and long term loans from cooperative societies and nationalized banks are repaying them on time,” the statement said.
The morcha submitted a memorandum to the government urging that all the farmers who have repaid loans till March 31, 2018 should also benefit by loan waiver. They urged urgent assistance regarding scarcity of seeds for sowing and to those farmers who sustained losses due to floods. They warned that mass protests will be held against the government if the government fails to respond. The memorandum was submitted to the government through additional deputy commissioner Anuradha.
