Udupi, Jul 11: “Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Union Ltd (DKMUL) Kulshekhar will offer ‘Thrupti 180 ml tetra pack’ free on July 12 with Nandini milk packet for their customers,” informed president of DKMUL Raviraj Hegde on Wednesday, July 11.
Addressing media he said, “The procurement of milk is increasing. Earlier, milk production was a problem, for which we were dependent on other districts. The okkoota receive 40 lac litre more milk than last year. Over 35 lac litre milk is being converted into milk powder. It needs additional Rs 9 for converting it into powder. It will be a burden for milk producers’ okkoota. The production is more than demand.
“This is the first okkoota out of 14 other okkootas offering ‘Thrupti 180 ml tetra pack’ free with milk packet and this is for the first time. It is a sterilized milk pack and can be stored for 90 days,” he said.
Thrupti 180 ml packet is being released simultaneously in the two districts Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. For this scheme, the union has invested Rs 62 lac so far. Around 6.2 lac of tetra packs are ready for distribution. A monitoring committee was formed to take care of proper distribution.
Raviraj Hegde said, “Milk is a well-balanced diet which gives one good health. The union is producing 1,15,000 litre of additional milk. It is procuring 4,82,000 lac litre milk and 50,000 kilos of powder is manufactured every day. Over 84 lac lire of milk is being procured in the state which is 14 percent more than earlier years. The market performance is very low when compared to production.
“We are planning to introduce several other milk products for customers in the days to come. We are going to introduce ‘Zeera Majjige’ (buttermilk) soon for the first time.
“A new dairy with a capacity of 2.50 lac litre will be constructed at cost Rs 100 crore at Uppoor which will be inaugurated by this year end. It will be fully integrated with the automatic automation system,” he said.
