Bengaluru, Jul 11: Policemen of Basaveshwara Nagar station in the city arrested a young man who had planned to gun down his parents and then end his own life. They gathered that he used to steal motor bikes for the girl he is in love with. The police who arrested the man, recovered a country-made pistol and eight bullets.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sharath (25) from Papareddypalya here. The Basaveshwara Nagar police were checking two-wheelers at Kaverinagara Junction on Pipeline Road, Kurubarahalli at 11 am on July 5 when Sharath, who arrived there on a Honda Dio vehicle tried to escape. The police, who grew suspicious, chased him. While checking his vehicle, they found a pistol in the box of his two-wheeler.

When he was taken into custody and questioned, Sharath confessed that he had planned to murder his father and mother as they opposed his plans to marry his lover. His parents had driven him out of their home.

Sharath, on completing mechanical engineering diploma course, was on the search for a job but could not bag any. He fell in love with a girl a few months back and promised to marry her. He mentioned about his lover at his home. His parents who were fed up of his earlier love affairs and the ruckus created by the parents of some girls he had ditched who came to them and quarreled with them, kicked him out of their home.

Sharath was in the habit of stealing motor bikes parked in front of houses by either snapping the handle locks or by using duplicate keys. He used to sell such bikes through friends at whatever price they fetched and spend the money in the company of his lover, police personnel stated.

Sharath had hired a rented room at Papareddy Palya. Two months back, he bagged a job as gym trainer at Nagarbhavi. In the past he had tried to commit suicide twice by consuming an overdose of sleeping pills, but his friends admitted him into hospital and saved his life both times. Six months back, he had gone to Magadi Road by car and tried to kill himself by inducing an accident there, but he survived with injuries on his left hand and left ribs. Thereafter, he bought a kind of pesticide used for pomegranate plants and consumed it. A few months back, he mixed poison to the water tank located on the terrace of the house where his parents lived but the parents noticed it and survived.

Sharath also searched for best methods of suicide through Google and found that the use of a pistol was the best method. He planned to fire at his parents and turn the pistol toward his head. He got a country pistol through a friend from Bihar who was his classmate in the past. He also experimented with the pistol by firing at his own fingers.

The police recovered ten two-wheelers valued at Rs 8.37 lac, eight live bullets and two used bullets from his possession. He has been booked for murder attempt, theft, different sections of Motor Vehicles Act, and Illegal Arms Act. On being produced at court, he was remanded to judicial custody.
