Mangaluru, Jul 10: St Agnes PU College, Biology department, recently celebrated Vanamahotsava at the college auditorium.
The programme began with a prayer song on nature followed by a mime on the theme 'Save Water', flash mob on 'Beat Plastic Pollution' and a documentary to raise awareness on pollution in the environment and its impact on our lives.
P Sridhar, range forest officer, Mangaluru, was the chief guest and Preema Correa welcomed him cordially with a bouquet.
Suvasini P administered the oath to the gathering, wherein they pledged to do their bit to conserve the environment.
The chief guest planted a sapling as a symbolic representation of Vanamahotsava.
The college cabinet members handed over a plant sapling to the principal as a symbol of promoting Vanamahotsava.
The chief guest distributed saplings to the students and exhorted them to take good care of it. He also distributed certificates to the winners of painting competition. In his speech he mentioned that environmental conservation and love and reverence for nature is best fostered at home at a young age. He further advised the students to plant saplings that will grow into mighty trees and provide shade and fruits to the coming generations. He warned of a dire future where people may have to carry oxygen masks instead of water bottles.
Shobha presented a memento to the chief guest as a token of respect and appreciation. The programme ended in an interactive session, where the students clarified their doubts with the chief guest. Shalon Susanne Pinto, Science secretary compered the event with flair.
