Udupi: Catholic Sabha, Kolalagiri unit holds paddy saplings plantation event for noble cause

Udupi, Jul 10: Over 170 members of Catholic Sabha, Kolalagiri unit got down into slushy fields to plant paddy saplings amidst of rain, with vigour and enthusiasm on Sunday, July 8.

It was a unique project growing paddy for charity. This was being organized for the third consecutive year. Catholic Sabha, Kolalagiri started the event with the purpose of serving the poor and needy.

The field was ploughed and paddy saplings were planted by people of all age groups. The processed rice from the yield will be distributed to local poor families and orphanage homes in days to come.



Udupi taluk panchayat president Nalini Pradeep Rao launched the programme. Rajiv Kulal, president, Arur gram panchayat, Fr Anil Prakash D'Souza, parish priest, Sacred Heart Church Kolalagiri, Vincent D'Souza, vice president, parish pastoral council, William, secretary, parish pastoral council, and Vijayadas Shetty, the land owner
were present.

On the occasion Catholic Sabha Kolalagiri unit honoured eight excellent students, who scored 80% in SSLC and PU exams.

Eight quintal of rice was cropped the previous year and it was distributed to 40 poor families and three orphanages.

Games were organised for Catholic Sabha members as part of the programme.

People participated and enjoyed the games. Rural dishes were prepared for lunch.

Aron Group lifted the group championship trophy in the games. Six groups played different games.

Stevan Prakash Lewis, former president of Catholic Sabha Kallianpur varado was present during the valedictory ceremony and distributed the prizes for the winners.

Chenife Mascarenhas welcomed the programme. George D'Souza, secretary of Catholic Sabha rendered the vote of thanks. Roshan D'Souza, compered the whole programme. Ashwini D'Souza handled the sports commentary part.

“Every year the number of participants are increasing. This programme was organized not only for getting yield, but also for enhancing the rural culture and to educate youths about value of rural cultivation,” said Ashwin D'Souza.

    In place of paddy if it was organic siridhaanya, rajgiri plantation campaign I would have been more happy.
