Puttur, Jul 10: A moving car caught fire and was gutted within minutes at Santyar, Aryapu village in the taluk on Monday July 9.
In this incident, a Ford Ikon car belonging to Mohammed Irshad from Paltady was burnt in the fire. Irshad escaped unhurt. Loss in the incident is estimated at Rs 60,000.
Irshad had visited Kasargod and was coming back by the same car. It is suspected that because the car was in running condition for a long period, fire would have been ignited through its silencer. The incident occurred when Irshad was moving towards the city from the direction of Kumbra.
The driver of an ambulance which was following the car, noticed fire being emitted in the rear end of the car. He overtook the car and warned Irshad about the fire. Irshad immediately parked the car by the roadside. Within minutes, the car went up in flames.
Fire brigade rushed to the spot and helped in extinguishing flames. A case stands registered in rural police station here relating to the incident.
