Bantwal: Four arrested for attacking police on night patrol

Bantwal, Jul 9: A group of 10 people, who were consuming liquor at the old bus stand at Vittal near here, attacked and abused the police personnel, who tried to stop them from having a party at a public place. This incident occurred on the night of Saturday, July 7.

A case was registered against Krishna, member of Vittal panchayat, Srihari, Praveen, Ganesh, Aneesh and five others in the group for obstructing the policemen from conducting their duty and also trying to attack them. The case was filed on the basis of the complaint given by police personnel Prasanna Kumar.

Aneesh, Ganesh Prasad, Akshath and Praveen were arrested in this connection.

Details of the incident

Ashok S, Prasanna Kumar and Jayant, police personnel of Vittal police station were on night patrol in a jeep doing rounds in the areas of Bobbekeri, Mangalapadavu, Nettarakere and KSRTC bus stand. When the team reached the old bus stand at around 12.30 pm, they saw a group of around 10 people consuming beer and smoking cigarettes.

When the police personnel got down from the jeep and asked the group to vacate the public place, one in the group blew the smoke of cigarette on the face of a police personnel. He also screamed at the police and said, "You do not question the people from other community. Who are you to question us?" Another police personnel was video recording this incident on his mobile. One of the guys in the group, who noticed the police personnel recording the argument on the mobile, snatched the mobile from the police and also tried to assault the police personnel as per the details mentioned in the complaint.

When the patrol police personnel tried to rope in more force from the station, the gang which noticed this, threw the mobile phone and escaped from the spot.
