Udupi, Jul 9: Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri on Sunday July 8 inaugurated 'Kutumbotsava', Doctors Day celebration at Sheshashayana Hall, Hotel Kediyoor here by lighting a lamp.
Dr G Srinivas Acharya, principal, SDM Ayurveda College, Udupi, Dr Sathyanarayana B, principal, Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Science, Manipal were present.
Dr Mohan Alva addressing the gathering said, "I did not wilfully choose this field. I had a lot of opportunities to work in various other fields through this and I am happy about this. The service sector has changed over a year. There are many challenges faced by the Ayurvedic field which we should be aware of.
"We fail to understand the resources of our country. Government and educational institutions must be protectd and promote this rich Ayurvedic sector, but we do not utilize them to their maximum capacity. There is need for updation on a day to day basis to adjust with the current scenario.
"Ayurveda physicians are not recognized as much as other doctors. Advanced and luxurious medicines are on the way. We have ample natural resources, which are required for treatment.
"If I continue my profession as a physician, I will dedicate it to Ayurvedic treatment. Youth still have opportunities in Ayurveda. They will rise to international standard. Most of the foreigners are coming to India not to travel alone, but to be treated under Ayurveda. They got attracted to the method of yoga and meditation. Now, Ayurveda is not restricted to India alone.
"We the people fail to upgrade Ayurveda treatment with science. Now the Naturopathic doctors are leading a good life."
Dr G Srinivas Acharya was honoured on the occasion for his dedicated service. He further went on to say, "People are approaching English medicine even though they are aware that antibiotics are chemicals and that their health may be affected.
"Now the trend has changed in the medical field. People are becoming more aware of the significance of Ayurveda. Metabolic diseases like blood pressure, cholestrol abnormalities and others can be cured by ayurvedic medicines. There is need to make a clinical evolution. One should make a review of Ayurvedic and English medicine. Ayurveda will soon gain recognition."
Dr N T Anchan presided over the programme.
Cultural programmes were performed by the AFI members and their family members which reflected the rich culture and practices of Tulunadu.
Manoj Kumar, president of AFI udupi taluk welcomed the gathering.
Dr K J Nambiar, president and Dr Hariprasad, secretary of Kundapur taluk, Dr Guruharan, president and Dr Sandeep Chauhan, secretary, Karkala taluk, Dr Sandeep Sanil, secretary, Udupi taluk were present.
