Mangaluru, Jul 8: Vanamahotsava programme was held at Spandana Trust of Infant Mary’s Convent Jeppu here on July 7.

Chitharanjan, manager of ‘Deen Dhayal Anthodaya Project’, urban national livelihood programme was the resource person and chief guest of the programme. Sr Marceline Braggs, superior of Infant Mary’s convent presided over the function.

Chitharanjan, Sr Helen Fernandes, Thertha KS, Sr Dorathi Fernandes, and Suchithra planted a sapling. Sr Helen Fernandes, administrator of Spandana Trust, Thertha, K S social Worker and Suchithra, president of SHG federation were on the dais.

Chitharanjan, in his address, said, “We should priority to have a clean environment and personal hygiene. We should maintain cleanliness of our mind and body and our surroundings. We should reuse the things that we are using and mainly, we should totally reduce the use of plastic as much as possible. Our achievement for our future generation is not by making a big name or fame, but by planting some saplings and to grow trees for our children.” He gave gave an example of Saalumarada Thimakka.

Sr Helen Fernandes, in her address said, “We need to have our own kitchen garden and grow vegetables for our use. We should grow neem and other medicinal plants."

The saplings were distributed for all those who were present.

Lizze D’Souza welcomed the gathering, Euline Lobo proposed the vote of thanks and Celine D’souza was the master of the ceremony.

The co-ordinator Victor Vas and the staff contributed for the success of the programme.
