Udupi, Jul 8: Universal Health Coverage scheme namely Arogya Karnataka initiated by government of Karnataka is being offered by Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, said the hospital authority.
This scheme covers Primary healthcare, normal secondary care, complex secondary care, tertiary and emergency health care and the scheme is in effect from June 1. The management of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, has decided to extend the treatment under this scheme from beginning. About 58 patients have availed the benefits under this scheme in June for treatment under the tertiary care clinical departments.
“As we are still waiting for the new guidelines for the said scheme, we are following the old scheme guidelines according to the SAST trust, for providing treatment to the patients. A few of the salient features of the scheme are, emergency services are available only for BPL card holders. Complex secondary care and tertiary care facility can be availed only with the reference letter obtained from the authorised Medical Officers of District Hospitals only. If the patient is covered by ESI or any other private insurance, then they are not eligible for the benefits under Arogya Karnataka,” the authority added.
