Mangaluru Jul 7: Parents of deceased Kavya Poojary on Saturday, July 7, demanded Special Investigation team (SIT) probe into the case.

It may be recalled, Kavya, an SSLC student who was a state level badminton player, reportedly committed suicide at her hostel room in Moodbidri near here on July 20 last year. The death had been termed as suicide by the police, however, Kavya's parents had expressed suspicions of foul play.

Addressing media mother of Kavya Poojary, Baby Poojary said, "My daughter Kavya was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Alva’s high school hostel last year. Since then, there was a lot of protest demanding justice in the case. It is close to one year, but so far, there has been no progress over the investigation of this case.

“Earlier, we met the home minister and chief minister seeking justice and demanded the case be handed over to COD. But our demand has not been met till date. Also ‘Justice for Kavya Horata Samithi’ raised voice, but failed to get any response. We have lost faith in the police department. Hence, we demand a SIT probe into the case from the new government,” she said.

“In the memory of late Kavya Poojary, there will be condolence meet on July 20 at Arya Samaj Hall followed by a candle light protest at Collector’s Gate demanding a SIT probe into the case,” informed Dinakar Shetty, convenor of Justice for Kavya Horata Samithi.

Father of Kavya Poojary, Lokesh Poojary, social activist Robert Rosario and others were present.
