Mangaluru, Jun 22: A person accused of raping and impregnating a teenager stands arrested. The accused has been identified as Rama alias Dasayya (38) from Paldane here. The victim happens to be a 19-year-old girl, who is a native of Kushtagi and who had come here to eke out a living by working as coolie. He was arrested by the personnel of the rural police station here.

The accused is also from Kushtagi. He has been working as coolie in the city since the last several years. For the last few months he was working as mason at Paldane. The family of the victim, who had shifted to the city two years back, also resides at Paldane. It is said that Dasayya and the girl had become friendly over time and misusing this closeness Dasayya raped her.

The girl became pregnant in the course of time. Immediately after learning about the girl's pregnancy, the family of the girl filed complained against Dasayya at the rural police station. The police, who registered a rape case, arrested Dasayya on Thursday June 21 and produced him in court.
