Sharjah, Sep 21: ''Udyavarites', the association of Udyavar parishioners residing in UAE, celebrated Monti fest on Friday September 19 at Basma Residency banquet hall, Abu Shagara, Sharjah.
The audience of about 250 was welcomed by Robert Fernandes, well-known stage artiste and Konkani writer. Vivian D'Silva, president, Udyavarites, addressed the gathering and touched upon the association’s achievement over the past seven years. He appealed for support to the association's causes such as education of poor children and help to other needy Udyavar parishioners.
Children showered flowers on Mother Mary with traditional spirit and fervor. The event was conducted Anthony D'Silva and the traditional 'noven' was blessed by Joe Pinto with prayer and invoking Lord Jesus Christ's blessings. Prayer was offered for peace and tranquility in Mangalore, Udupi, Orissa, and other places where Christians came under attack recently.
Hilarious skits by Gilbert D'Sa, Jeffery Castelino, Joacky D'Souza, Clarence D'Souza and Deepak Quadros, entertained the audience. Bingo was conducted by Raphael D'Souza and the vote of thanks was given by Canute Moras.
Former presidents of the association, Gerald Periera and Donald Machado felicitated the sponsors of the event. Robert Fernandes compered the program and kept the audience on their feet with several spot prizes and humorous jokes.
'Noven Jevan' prepared in-house was relished by all the guests and made the event a resounding success. Everyone left with words of praise and promises of returning next year.
