Panaji: Infrastructure will be Major Focus of International Conference

Indian Merchants Chamber(IMC), in association with the Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai (IIT) and International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geometric(IACMAG), will be organizing the 12th international confernce, with major focus on Infrastructure (technology & implementation), from October 1 to 6, 2008 in Goa.
 
This conference is organized once in three years in different countries. Such high quality and focus-based conferences are not organized often. After a lot of persuasion, negotiation, almost similar to the Olympics, IIT has secured the right to organize the conference, for the first time in India.
 
While briefing the reporters at a press conference here, M S Chaini, president of the Indian Merchants Chamber informed, that this organization is 103-year old and that the present conference will support the economic and social development of the country.
 
"This conference is being held to make the upcoming youth more productive, so that unemployment problem plaguing the country is eased," president, IMC added.
 
"Goa should be proud, that it is has been chosen as the destination for this international conference, at a time when India has got the privilege to host this conference for the first time ever," he further added.
 
"Development of infrastructure will be the main aim of the conference and many central government and stage government officers and authorities will be participating in  the conference," said Prof D N Singh, department of civil engineering, IIT Mumbai.
 
The earlier conferenceswere  held respectively at Vicksburg,(USA)-1972, Blacksburg,(USA)-1976, Aachen,(Germany)-1979, Edmonton,(Canada)-1982 Nagoya,(Japan)-1985, Innsbruck,(Austria)-1988, Cairns(Australia)-1991, Morgantown,(USA)-1994, Wuhan,(China)-1997, Tuscon,(USA)-2001 and Turin,(Italy)-2005.
 
Out of the 500 delegates that have registered to participate in the conference, 410 are from abroad.
 
Many prominent Indian speakers will speak during the conference. Kapil Sibal, union minister for science, technology and ocean development, Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat, union minister of state for labour and employment Oscar Fernandes, Maharashtra member of the legislative council Nitin Gadkari, former power minister Suresh Prabhu, Development Credit Bank chairman Naseer Munjee, metropolitan commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Ratnakar Gaikwad and several others will take part and address the participants.
