Belagavi, May 9: Senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan urged the people of Karnataka to vote for Congress and give the party a thumping majority as the “BJP has nothing other than one Yeddy and two Reddys” and has no roadmap or vision for the state.
Addressing a public meeting in the border district in support of Congress candidates in this Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti dominated area he said that the BJP has no concrete road map for the development of Karnataka.
“BJP will only ensure personal development of Reddy brothers. Hence, for the overall development of Karnataka please vote for Indian National congress led by Siddaramaiah in Karnataka,’’ he said.
Ashok Chavan is campaigning for Congress candidates in Karnataka assembly election and held multiple rallies for Laxmi Hebbalkar, a Congress candidate from Belgaum rural and Dr Anjali Nimbalkar contesting assembly election from Khanapur constituency.
A massive crowd welcomed Ashok Chavan with spontaneous slogans saying ‘Chatrapati Shivaji Maharajki Jai’ and ‘Jai Bhavani….Jai Shivaji’.
Ashok Chavan criticized central government’s wrong policies. He referred to the hollow promises given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during 2014 Lok Sabha elections. None of the promises made by Modi, like 2 crore jobs per year, 15 lac deposit to everyone’s account, implementation of the Swaminathan commission report or support price to agriculture produce were fulfilled.
On the contrary, he said the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah has fulfilled 95% of promises made in the Congress manifesto during last assembly elections.
He said that it is a paradox that after a total failure in Maharashtra now BJP leaders from Maharashtra are coming to Karnataka and pleading before the people, that if they want development like Maharashtra, bring BJP to power in Karnataka.
Chavan said that 13,000 farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra under this failed BJP government. Not just farmers, but even the educated youths are committing suicides. He said, “I have come here to tell you that if you do not want farmers suicides like the ones in Maharashtra, bring Congress again to power in Karnataka.”
Ashok Chavan was accompanied by Karnataka energy minister and KPCC Campaign Committee chairman D K Shivakumar, All India Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev, KPCC general secretary P V Mohan, Belgaum Congress district president Vijay Navalgatti, MPCC general secretary R K Ojha and secretary Prakash Satpute and others.
