Kundapur, Apr 28: Murder suspect Sadashiva Nagappa Naik was acquitted by the district and sessions court, in connection with the murder of Kalpana Mahale which took place on November 4, 2012.

It may be recalled that Kalpana Ashok Mahale (45), a resident of Bhatkal Jali gram panchayat, was found dead in the forest of Konara, Bhatkal. Mundali resident Sadashiva Nagappa Naik was arrested as a suspect in the case.

Sadashiva was suspected to have killed the married woman throwing a boulder on her and snatching her Karimani chain. The then circle inspector K U Beliappa had submitted a charge sheet against the accused. Thirty witnesses were heard in the court room. The verdict was based on circumstantial evidence. As bail was rejected due to the gravity of the case, the suspect was in jail for more than five years. Justice Vittal S of Karvar district and sessions court, acquitted the suspect stating that the allegations are not proved with evidence and witnesses.

Kundapur advocate Ravikiran Murdeshwar argued in favour of suspect Sadashiva Nagappa Naik.
