Udupi, Apr 27: “There is no confusion in BJP in Kaup. Party leaders have selected Lalaji R Mendon for Vidhan Sabha elections. All of us have unanimously accepted his candidature and we will face elections as a team. His election as Kaup MLA is certain,” said BJP ticket aspirant, district vice-president Gurme Suresh Shetty.

Addressing news conference in Kaup BJP office on Thursday, April 26, he said that there was competition only till the selection of candidate. “It is our responsibility to support those to whom the party gives an opportunity after that. Curtains are drawn for the confusion regarding selection of candidates and other suspicions.

“I had not joined the party expecting positions. I had requested for an opportunity to contest with the desire to serve the people along with social work. I was disappointed as I did not get the ticket. However, party elders called and spoke to me. I will work actively from today to make the party win,” he said.

Former MLA, BJP candidate Lalaji R Mendon said that the confusion among activists is done away with. “We will be indulging in elections as one. The win of BJP with the support of voters and activists is assured. The decision of Gurme Suresh Shetty has given elephant’s strength to the party,” he said.

BJP district spokesman Katpadi Shanker Poojary, Kaup block president Prakash Shetty Padebettu, chief secretary Muralidhar Pai, jitendra Shetty Udyavar, election observer Gangadhar Suvarna, zilla pachayat member Shilpa G Suvarna, women’s morcha president Kesari Yuvaraj, SC/ST morcha president Chandra Mallaru and others were present.
