Bengaluru, Apr 26: A robber in the guise of a sage, who is still at large, looted 270 grams of gold from the house of a relative of Kempaiah, IPS officer and advisor to the state home department. This incident is reported from HBR Layout of Hennuru near here.
Mamatha, wife of Chandrashekaraiah, RTO officer, is the lady who lost the gold after she came into the dragnet of the cheat. Mamatha is a housewife and is alone at home when her husband goes to work. The cheat, who observed that the lady is alone at home, approached her at around 4 pm and told her that her health is not okay and he can set it right by doing a pooja. Incidentally, Mamatha was suffering from some ill-health and she readily agreed and allowed the Swamy inside the house.
The fraudster asked Mamatha to sit in front of her and started the act of doing pooja. Then he sprinkled a powder which he had in his bag on Mamatha. As Mamtha inhaled the powder laced with chemicals, she fell unconscious and the trickster Swamy robbed the golden chain on her neck and two golden bangles she was wearing on her hands. He also took some silver ornaments from the cupboard and escaped from the scene.
After regaining consciousness, Mamatha came to know that she is taken for a ride by the trickster and she informed the same to her husband. The couple has registered a complaint in this regard at the Hennur police station. The police are on the search for the concerned person, whose picture is captured in the CCTV.
