Mangaluru: Five accused of kidnap, robbery, murder attempt arrested

Mangaluru, Apr 25: Police team consisting Mangaluru East (Kadri) police inspector Maruthi G Nayak and staff arrested five people accused of kidnap, robbery and attempt to murder. The accused had kidnapped the victim with his bike, robbed his mobile, demanded ransom and tried to kill him. Police have recovered a mobile worth Rs 15,000, bike worth Rs 50,000 and a couple of other two-wheelers used for the crime.

The arrested suspects are Dheeraj Kumar alias Dheeru (23), resident of Alape Ganada Bettu, Padil; Pranesh Poojary (21), staying in front of St Joseph College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru and permanent resident of Adyaru Katte Mane, Kemanjoor, Adyar, Mangaluru; Nikshit Poojary (21) resident of Kannur Janaki Thota, Kannur, Mangaluru; Preetham Poojary (22), Jalligudde Jayanagar, Bajal, Mangaluru and Nithin Poojary (20), Arkula, Near Nithya Sai Matha High school, Arkula, Mangaluru.

The accused had forced Glanson, resident of Jalliguidde, Jayanagar, Mangaluru to sit in their two wheeler from Bikarnakatte on April 15 at 4.30 pm and took him and his bike near Adyar railway track. They demanded money, snatched his mobile phone, threatened him with knife, telephoned his house people and demanded Rs one lac ransom, assaulted and attempted to kill him. They later took him to Kelarai, Neermarga, assaulted and demanded ransom from him. All the five accused have criminal background and are also accused in attempted murder cases.

Mangaluru East police station inspector Maruthi G Nayak, PSI crime Neethu R Gude and staff Venkatesh, Jayananda, Umesh, Girish, Jogi, Ajith, Mathew, Raghavendra, Beerendra, Hanumantha, Manoj and computer section staff conducted the operation under the leadership of M Jagadish, assistant police commissioner.
