Mangaluru, Apr 15: The 'go slow' stir engaged in by the employees of Mangalore Once Centres under the leadership of Karnataka One Employees Association has been temporarily withdrawn till May 31.
The employees had undertaken protest in pursuance of various demands including payment of salary pending since several months, payment of minimum wage fixed by the government etc. Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) state general secretary, Suresh, said at a press conference on Saturday April 14 that the decision to suspend agitation was taken on the basis of assurance given at a meeting with the participation of assistant labour officer and labour inspector with INTUC office bearers in which assurance was given about taking legal steps to meet demands of the striking employees. He said that the said meeting was held under the directions of additional deputy commissioner, Vaishali.
He said that officials of labour department have told Satish Jorapur, vice president of CMS, to which contract to run Karnataka One centres has been given, not to dismiss, pressurize, or transfer employees who went on strike. He also mentioned that labour officials have promised to produce deputy director of CMS before the district administration and officials before May 31 this year and issue them specific instructions to meet the demands of the employees.
Suresh said that withdrawal of protect till May 31 was agreed upon as all the officials are now busy with poll duties. If demands are not met, employees will hold meeting and further action plan will be pursued, he warned.
INTUC president, Manohar Shetty, youth INTUC district vice president Chiranjeevi, and others were present at the press conference.
