Belgaum, Aug 31: People here were taken aback to confront a person they believed, had been murdered 18 months ago. Sanjeev Choudhary from Shahu Nagar near here came back home alive on Friday August 29, to the utter disbelief of neighbourers and friends alike.

Rajeev, Sanjeev's brother, arrested last year on the suspicion of having a hand in his brother's murder, is in judicial custody. Sanjeev and Rajeev are the children of retired teacher I V Sambara. Quarrels had broken out several times between the siblings on the provident fund money of their mother. Sanjeev, disgusted over the protracted skirmishes, left home one day, not to be seen again, and his mother filed a complaint with the APMC police about the disappearance.

In March 2007, the headless trunk of a man was found at Amate village of Khanapur taluak. The villagers who found the body, informed the police. When the photo of the trunk and the clothes found on this body were shown to Sanjeev's relatives, they confirmed that they indeed belonged to Sanjeev.

In August 2007, the Khanapur police had arrested notorious rowdy Pravin Shintre and his goons, relating to the murder of Sheetal Choughule. The gang was charged with seven murders including that of Sanjeev. The police concluded, that the gang was paid by Rajeev to murder his brother. Rajeev was accordingly arrested.

Sanjeev called up his sister on Thursday from Kollapur over phone, to say that he was alive and coming back. On Friday August 29, he came  back. Accompanied by sister, Sanjeev Choudhary met superintendent of police Sonia Narang on Friday afernoon and explained what had transpired. The case is to come up before the court on September 1, during which Sanjeev plans to appear in person. The superintendent of police has asked the family and Sanjeev to submit documents to prove that he is indeed Sanjeev Choudhary.
