Udupi, Apr 12: Veerabhadraswamy temple at Hiriyadka here is preparing for reinstallation and Brahmakalashotsava. Nearly 2,000 volunteers have indulged in the renovation of the temple. The committee has divided the volunteers here in groups so that continuous religious rituals for ten days may progress smoothly. A sea of devotees to see the beauty of Brahmakalashotsava is expected. Providing security in a place where such huge crowd gathers is a huge responsibility of the committee.

Providing identity cards to volunteers to identify by respective committees is the usual practice. However, the temple committee here has gone a step ahead using technology to provide security. This is perhaps the first time that such technology is being used for a mass gathering.

Villagers of all ages, 200 to 300 in number including children come here during day and night and provide Karaseve. This is perhaps the first time that biometric is being used in a temple to identify volunteers in view of security. Biometric was used for the last two days to identify volunteers along with identity cards. Besides Hiriyadka villagers, people in nearby villages have started visiting the temple. More than 2,000 devotees have arrived here with enthusiasm for biometric registration.

Separate teams have been formed for different works and suitable responsibilities are entrusted to them. It becomes easy to know what work is assigned to a particular volunteer. The technology is used to know the team which has the responsibility of serving meals, look after parking of vehicles, welcoming committee and religious rituals. “The system is adopted to do away with lapses in God’s work and to prevent inconvenience to devotees by strangers,” said committee member Raghavendra.
