Bengaluru, Apr 11: Senior motor vehicles inspector and president of Karnataka State Government Employees Association, B P Manjegowda was hand-picked by chief minister, Siddaramaiah, to contest as a Congress candidate in Holenarasipura constituency against H D Revanna and defeat him. Manjegowda had tendered resignation to his job at the advice of the chief minister, but there was a hitch in the form of complaints pending against him in Lokakyukta.
Manjegowda has been facing Lokayukta probe relating to illegal mining in Ballari. On April 2, the state law department had recommended to the government against accepting the resignation of Manjegowda. However, by using its discretionary powers, the state government has gone ahead and accepted his resignation.
As soon as his resignation got the government's nod, Manjegowa also resigned as the president of Karnataka State Government Employees Association. He handed over charge to honorary president of the association, H K Ramu, on Tuesday April 10 at the office of the association.
