Kundapur: Obstructing election officials from discharging duties - two held

Kundapur, Apr 10: In an incident reported from Ankadakatte in the outskirts of the town which happened late night on Monday April 9, officials who visited a popular hotel there to conduct verification relating to violation of election code of conduct were obstructed from discharging their duties. It is learnt that an effort was also made to assault them.

Electoral officer of this constituency, Bhoobalan, who happens to he the assistant commissioner here, probationary assistant commissioner, Poovita, and excise deputy commissioner, Neeru Nandan, had visited the said hotel. They had gone there to check the veracity of a complaint received by them about serving of liquor in this particular hotel. When they were capturing video footage in the hotel, some customers objected to it. This led to verbal friction between the officials and customers of the hotel, it is said.

On the basis of a complaint made by the assistant commissioner, hotel owner and a customer were taken into custody by the police personnel of the town station. The police are conducting investigation about the alleged incident.

Bhoobalan said that steps would be initiated against the accused as per the directions of the Election Commission for assaulting on duty officials and obstructing them from discharging their duties.
