Bengaluru, Apr 6: Following a complaint by JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda, the Election Commission on Friday April 6 reportedly took action against home ministry advisor Kempaiah.
Gowda in his complaint alleged that Kempaiah was using police vehicles to transport money for the Karnataka Assembly election, sources said.
Kempaiah, a 1981 batch retired IPS officer who is serving as advisor to the home minister was asked to leave the office for violating the election code of conduct, reports said.
Moreover, it is alleged that Kempaiah continued to perform his duties despite the enforcement of model code of conduct.
Deve Gowda had complained to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Om Prakash Rawat during his visit to Bengaluru to review preparedness for the Assembly elections.
However, the Congress has dismissed the reports as 'fake news'.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah in a reply to a tweet by BJP leader Muralidhar Rao accused the BJP of spreading 'lies'. "Just because PM withdrew Smriti Irani’s circular on #FakeNews you dont get licence to spread #FakeNews @PMuralidharRao garu. You are too senior a leader to indulge in these theatrics. Focus on telling the voter what you can do. Lies are certainly not getting you anywhere," he tweeted.
The crucial Karnataka Assembly polls are due on May 12 and the results will be announced on May 15.
