Karkala, Mar 20: “Former union minister M Veerappa Moily started Kisan Sabha trust and social activities due to inspiration from the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi,” said Kisan Sabha Trust secretary Harsha Moily.
He was speaking after inaugurating free medical checkup camp held by Kisan Sabha Trust in association with Prasad Netralaya and Yenepoya Medical College Hospital at Rajiv Gandhi auditorium here on Monday, March 19.
“Kisan Sabha Trust has given priority for education. The educational institute started in Kukkundoor gram panchayat limits now has become a hope for the exploited and weak. The importance of health was stressed in health camp. Similar camps will be held in several villages in the upcoming days,” he said.
Former MLA H Gopala Bhandary said, “Veerappa Moily laid the foundation stone for Kisan Sabha during 1969-70. He was an advocate then. He started it to face inequality, exploitation and oppression being an inspiration for the campaign to provide the right of land to the poor.”
Congress observer Bharath Mundodi said, “Those who are rich at heart indulge in social programmes. Several social works are in progress due to the social concern of union minister M Veerappa Moily.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pramod of Prasad Natralaya said, “The age after 40 years affects a person's mental and physical well being. The indications may appear first through eye. It is necessary to take care of health.”
