Moodbidri, Mar 18: It is gathered that hostel wardens of Alva’s College in the town thrashed PU college students with sticks. Reportedly, the incident happened in Alva’s hostel at Pushpagiri here and those who were attacked were PU students.
The incident happened on Saturday, March 17.
It is learnt that differences had arisen between the students and wardens over certain issues. There is accusation that the students were hit indiscriminately by the wardens for frivolous reasons. Nearly 20 students are understood to have suffered injuries in the incident, with 2 of them sustaining serious injuries. They are taking treatment at Alva’s hospital here. Other 18 students took first aid and medical treatment.
As per the details available, after the second PU exams were over on Saturday, some students complained that the food was not good at the hostel. There were some arguments over the issue between students and staff of the hostel. The warden named Rajesh accompanied by some other wardens made a list of 20 students and called them out later at night. All these students were allegedly beaten up by the wardens.
As the affected students were not allowed to go out from the campus since the incident took place, they were unable to contact the media, Daijiworld managed to speak to some of the students who narrated their ordeal. They said warden Rajesh is always seen drunk every night. They also provided the photos of liquor bottles in his room.
More details are awaited.
