Udupi, Mar 17: A stranger, on the pretext of helping an old man to withdraw money from ATM, deceived the old man thousands of rupees by withdrawing as well as transferring the money from his account, using his ATM card.

Janardhanan (79), a resident of Ozhachrome of Kannur district of Kerala state is the hapless victim who lost his money to the fraudster. Janardhanan had come to his daughter's house in Manipal on March 10. He went to the ATM machine on March 12 at Basic Signs building Manipal at 8.30 pm. As his eyesight is weak, a stranger accompanied him and withdrew the money using his card and gave the money to him.

After Janardhanan reached Kannur and enquired with SBI bank the details of his account, the incident of withdrawal of money and transfer of the same by the stranger came to light. A complaint stands registered with regards to this fraud at the cybercrime station (CEN) of Udupi.

Very sad. Many times and often happens this all over the world. The old man could have taken his own people ,daughter when he was not sure.Hope the bank can help him to recover his money,as they know the account number where it is transfered. However the people seem to be reliable ,better not take help from a stranger in bank matters.Better a bank officer.or own people.By the way can one person draw any amount of money at one time without restriction.?(in India?)
