Udupi, Feb 13: Three persons, who were said to be trying to steal cows being looked after at the Shirur Math's base Math at Hiriyadka, were held by locals land handed to police for investigation. The incident happened on Saturday.
The arrested persons happen to be Jabir, Vijay Shetty, and Angara. They were found loitering about under suspicious circumstances in front of the Shirur base Math at Hiriyadka on Saturday evening. Driver of Shirur Math Swamiji, Prasad, and his friends, questioned the trio. At this, they fled from the spot. They were chased, stopped and questioned. They reportedly confessed that they had come there with the purpose of stealing bovine animals being reared in the Math. They were then taken to Hiriyadka police station and a case was registered against them.
The Math has several cattle under its shelter, and attempts are often made to steal them. A few days back too such an effort was made. On Wednesday last, a Scorpio car which came from the direction of Harikahandige at high speed had hit the car of the Swamiji near the gate of the Math before escaping. Even then, driver of Swamiji's vehicle, Prasad, who was in the driver's seat at that time, in a complaint filed in Hiriyadka station, had suspected that that the vehicle involved was carrying cattle illegally.
