Mangaluru, Jan 31: The police have registered a suo motu case against VHP district president Jagadish Shenava for making provocative statements on Basheer murder case during a recent event.
In a book release ceremony on January 28, Shenava had said, "Basheer was killed in revenge to the murder of innocent Deepak Rao. So we do not have any concern for Basheer's death."
He had also said, "If Sharath Madivala could be killed to settle scores for the murder of Ashraf, then why Basheer should not be murdered as retribution for Deepak's killing?"
His statements drew flak from various quarters, with parties like the JD(S) and outfits like the PFI demanding his arrest.
On Tuesday January 30, the police registered a suo motu case under Sections 153 A and 116 of the IPC, with PSI of Mangaluru north police station Ananth Murdeshwar as the complainant.
