Udupi, Jan 28: More than eleven Carmelite priests, who have arrived all the way from places like Kochi, Delhi and other places met Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Palimar Math on Saturday, January 27.

The team led by Fr Prof Gregory D’Souza took part in a meeting held at Rushivana in Bengaluru and later visited Sri Krishna Math here. All the Carmelite priests in this team are professors in various educational institutions and are doing research on ‘Indian philosophy, religion in current position and other subjects'.

The team discussed topics like existence of God, Vedantha, Indian culture, using religion at present situation and other subjects during the interaction with the Swamiji.

Speaking to daijiworld, Fr Prof Gregory D'Souza said, "As we are teachers, professors and PhD holders on various subjects, we do further research in an interdisciplinary approach and bring out literature, books and scientific articles. Our theme was 'The impact of the teaching on human beings as a person'. Human as a person is a biological being with body and senses. Human, as a psychological being, has external and internal senses and intellect. Human, as a social person, is in relation to each other.

"He is a mystical being and all we have to transit. There is a popular religious ofcity which is distinct from true religion. Therefore, we want to find out and see true religion, which contributes to the progress and development of human society. Through this literary research, all PhD Carmelites want to contribute to the upliftment of society."

During the interaction, the Swamiji opined, "Every human has belief in God. Definitely, God exists. Without him, nothing will be there in the world. God lives in every human being. We can experience God in human beings. We can find God by surrendering our souls fully to him. There is a doubt whether human being has control over his five organs. But how can a man breath without control of anything, even in an unconscious state? This is made possible only by the existence of God."

Fr Wilson Srampickal, PhD holder in theology, Fr Sebastian Mahimairaj, PhD in management, Fr Verghese Cheriyakadavil, PhD in theology, Fr Boby Xavier, PhD in psychology, Fr Thomas Marottikap Arambil, PhD in Biblical Theology, Fr Bosco Correya, PhD in philosophy, Fr Antony Ponvelil, PhD in theology, Fr Benjamin Elias, PhD in spirituality and Fr Augustine Muloor, PhD in sacred Scriptures participated in the philosophical discussion with Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji.

Palimar Swamiji spent half an hour in healthy, logical discussion and felicitated the Carmelite priests thereafter. The Carmelite priests also offered shawl and fruits to Swamiji as a token of respect.

Joseph Rebello, coordinator of the event was also present on the occasion.

Inter-faith dialogue is needed to realize tiny if not no differences between our respective faiths. Really nice to see Swamiji with the priests.
Upfront scholars in all faiths point to the same message provided in all faiths. What we witness today in India and around the world, is violence, hatred due to illiteracy accompanied with a sense of belonging coming out of identity rather than understanding.
India is the best place to develop such understanding as we still have few people who have developed this understanding out of hunger for knowledge. These are the real minorities in their respective faiths who need to not only have dialogue but also take initiative to educate their respective illiterate followers. Inter-faith societies must grow from grass-roots and become main-stream (free of politicians..please...!!!) for those interested in knowledge of their and other faiths.

catholics are for more open minded when it accepting other faiths and their practices.
In Mangalore they were our neighbours and one of the best people to have around as your good neighbours. Even now we are great friends, even even consult each other on matters that are discussed among close family.

the true reality of the fact is there is only one god, and can be called as male/female gender or as simply a light, which i prefer to see god as. Male/female approach is due to duality of reality, when you see god as nirguna, without any attributes, he is seen as light, or sound as Om.

And due dwaitha or dualistic approcah we have captured god in stones, murthies etc, if you see the siddhars of south India, they abhored temple worship or worship of god in any form. They see him as absolute and in no form or shape, this requires lot of purity and moving away from dualistic thought.

I must say it is very difficult to these swamiji's /Fathers/religious mendicants to accept others faiths and their practices easily as they only have one sided view/practice, it takes very high souls like Ramakrishna Paramahansa to experiment his faith and see same god as shakta/shakti/vaishnava/ and other two forms. He found same god in all these five approaches.

The main problem is fundamentalist in all religion fueled by our beloved politicians from both sides.
misleading people and creating differences/hatred and disharmony in society. this is where people, especially our youth should be careful in listening to their messages of division and hatred and walk away from such fundamentalist pat
for a moment if we look at our vast world/vast universe and how harmonious our planets/solar system/galaxy work........this is a work of much higher intelligence.....which we tend to call god and each of us tend to look at it differently. Yes i believe in one god as para brahman, and others would like to call that intelligence god the father or allah by muslims or guru by sikhs

Discussion on theological level is one thing; there ought to be accommodation of the lay people of all faiths who wish to pray in the temples, churches, mosques, etc. without fear from their religious leaders. Will they go so far and accept that there is only one God and, though he (or she) is indivisible, God can be called by and prayed to in many names?

One of the nicest and very significant development - thanks for the INITIATIVE and LEADERSHIP
displayed by the Carmelite priests and Wise Swamiji. This is unique and wonderful news!

We want more of this kind of positive interaction, communication and accommodation.

The priests didn't try to convert the Swamiji nor did they argue about existence of ONE GOD - they were humble and grateful for his wise counsel!

We must all welcome such interaction and appreciation for each others beliefs! World would be a much better, peaceful and friendly place to live - like GOD intended as a reason for creation!

This should bring in some change the mindset o the general public at large. There is a lot of distortion due to unrest in today world of turmoil. The soothing is the need of the hour. We cannot afford to target each other because that is against all religious ethics. As Ronald from Udupi rightly put it ... interfaith dialogue and affinity.

Hope this will spread across and bring winds of change.

    Commendable initiative of the hour.
