Puttur, Jan 27: On the occasion of diamond jubilee celebrations of the college, department of Sanskrit, St Philomena College organized science fest on January 23.

Alankarashastra professor of Sanskrit College, Udupi, Vidwan Amritesha Acharya delivered the inaugural address. He said, “Sanskrit is an ancient Indian language. It is a sacred language of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. It is believed that the Sanskrit language originated during the time of Rig-Veda.”

Campus director and chairman of PG Studies Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro was the guest of honour. Principal Prof Leo Noronha expressed his best wishes. Correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto delivered the presidential address.

Kshama Bhat and Inchara presented the prayer song. Sanskrit lecturer of St Philomena PU College Vidwan Suresh Kumar welcomed the gathering. Convener of the fest and HoD of Sanskrit Vignesha Sharma delivered introductory speech. Deekshitha proposed the vote of thanks. Sowmya P compered the programme.

On this occasion, exhibition was arranged to present Sanskrit as a language of science. The students of neighbouring schools and college participated as the delegates. In the afternoon session, cultural heritage of ancient India was displayed by the students.
