Udupi, Jan 23: Relating to signature campaign carried out by right wing organizations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Durga Vahini and Bajrang Dal near M G M College here on Monday January 22, a case stands registered in the town police station here under section 149 of Criminal Procedure Code.
In a report filed relating to the protest, assistant police sub-inspector of the station, Narayan, said that when he was on the rounds with some other staff near M G M College at about 12.15 pm on Monday, he found that about 40 persons had come together there under the leadership of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal leaders.
Leaders included Vilas Nayak, Bajrang Dal leader, Sunil K R, Bajrang Dal district convener, Dinesh Mendon, Vishwa Hindu Parishad town unit president, Santosh Suvarna, Bajrang Dal Hebri leader, Dinesh Shetty, Bajrang Dal leader, Surendra Koteshwar, Durga Vahini leader,Padma Ratnakar, Durgavahini leader, Bhagyashree Aithal and Bajrang Dal town unit convener, Lokesh Shettigar. They were distributing pamphlets with the headings, 'awareness campaign against Love Jihad', 'Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Durgavahini Udupi district etc.
"When questioned they said they had organized awareness campaign against Love Jihad for the benefit of male and female students. They were questioned about permission obtained for organizing this programme. they answered in the negative," Narayan reported.
He said that without obtaining permission from either the district administration or any other authority, the leaders illegally assembled about 40 people on national highway 169A and created obstruction for smooth movement of people and vehicles from 12.15 to 13.15 pm.
