Udupi, Jan 22: Right-wing organisations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini, the women’s wing of the VHP on Monday January 22 organized a signature campaign against ‘love Jihad’ near MGM College here.
Vilas Nayak, district president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad said, "This is a regional level campaign against ‘love Jihad’. Many say that ‘love Jihad’ does not exist. But the high court itself has confirmed the existence of ‘love Jihad’ and how conspiracy is being made in the name of love.
"Hindus who fall into the trap of ‘love Jihad’ start supporting terrorism. This is a threat to Hindu religion. A big conspiracy is being hatched to convert Hindu girls to Islam.
"VHP is not against love, but we are fighting against unhealthy incidents in the name of love. It should be stopped. Girls are not aware of fake Facebook profiles and they get attracted towards the boys of other community. An appeal has been submitted to take up stern action against fake profiles on Facebook and social media. There is a need of an aggressive campaign in the days to come," he said.
Suprabha Acharya, vice-president of Durga Vahini said, "Nowadays, working women do not have time to take care of their children. Minor girls fall in love in college. If one becomes a victim of ‘love Jihad’, her life will have a tragic ending. Children these days do not patience to listen to their parents. Hence, Durga Vahini will go to various schools and colleges in Karnataka and distribute handbills warning about ‘love Jihad’.
"We will make the youth understand the impact of ‘love Jihad’. We hope to achieve huge success. The main objective of the campaign is to prevent innocent girls from falling into the trap of ‘love Jihad’,” she said.
The signs were collected by the students of MGM College during the campaign.
Rama J Rao, president, Durga Vahini, Padma Ratnakar, Bhagya Shree Aithal, Pushpa, Dinesh Mendon, convener of Bajrang Dal, Sunil K R, divisional convener and Santhosh Suvarna of VHP were present.
