Udupi, Jul 27: It was a miraculous escape for Nagaraj (35) tempo driver Mahesh (19) and Suresh (21), after their tempo fell from a bridge near Innanje, Kaup, on Saturday, July 26. The tempo which was plying from Bantakal to Mangalore, first got stuck in the bridge rods and then fell 20 ft into the water below  the bridge.

Mahesh and Suresh might have drowned in the river but for the timely help from locals Ummer and Mohammed, who came to their rescue. Both have been admitted in a private hospital in Udupi with injuries, but are said to be out of danger.

Seeing the scene of the accident, the locals found it hard to believe that the three managed to escape alive from the accident. This is the latest in a series of road accidents during the monsoon, which have plagued the twin districts of coastal belt.

Good rescue work What is the message to the Drivers? Many small bridges in Mangalore are designed in such a way that the approach or the exit is sharp turn. So the truck with full load needs to slow down on approach and while exiting on such bridges.

Many drivers are not trained to drive safely .when a vehicle is loaded with goods to unsafe height, its gravity remains on top and easily gives way to the truck to over turn in small turns. India needs to upgrade The Driving Training System Unsafe driving is one of the contributory factor for this accident
