Belagavi, Jan 19: A doctor with distorted thinking process, who used to target luxury cars parked in front of houses of rich people, stands arrested. He used to torch the cars by using camphor.
The police, who were faced with the task of getting to the person who used to randomly set cars on fire since the last some days, found that the culprit was Dr Amit Vijaykumar, who holds MBBS, MD degrees. He happens to be a native of Pragati Nagara in Kalaburagi and is currently working as Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences. As of now, he is posted as officer in charge of blood bank there.
During the last four days, 20 luxury cars had been set on fire by the doctor.
Giving details about the case at a press conference held at APMC police station here on Thursday, deputy commissioner of police, Seema Latkar, said that Dr Amit (37), serving as pathologist, has been living at Sadashiva Nagar in the city since the last ten years. The incidents of torching the cars occurred because of the fact that he has lost his mental balance," she informed.
At 9.20 pm on Wednesday, Dr Amit had entered J3 Apartment complex at Vishweshwara Nagar in the city. He was trying to torch a car found parked there when security guard of the building, Gangana Gouda, stopped and questioned him. Although no one was residing in the apartment complex then, Dr Amit claimed he had been invited there by a resident named Nayak. The watchman, who grew suspicious of his intentions of the strange visitor after seeing that he was holding a box of camphor pieces and other things, called the police control room. The police personnel of APMC station who went there to investigate, questioned Dr Amit, and found out what had happened, she explained.
