Mangaluru, Jan 18: The Mumbai police have arrested a Bajrang Dal activist in the city on charges of kidnapping a girl who had allegedly eloped with a man from another community.
The arrested has been identified as Sunil Pumpwell.
It is learnt that a girl from Mangaluru, who is studying in a college in the city, had allegedly eloped with a man named Iqbal to Mumbai, of which he is a resident.
Alleging 'love Jihad', the girl's family members had brought her back from Mumbai to Mangaluru.
Thereafter, Iqbal approached the Mumbai court and submitted a habeas corpus appeal, alleging that the girl was kidnapped.
Based on Iqbal's complaint, Sunil Pumpwell was arrested on charges of abduction.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, the Bajrang Dal allegedly threatened to chop off Iqbal's head for engaging in 'love Jihad'.
