Mangaluru: MCC to demolish shops encroaching parking space in city - Mayor

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (AP)

Mangaluru, Jan 18: Mayor Kavita Sanil on Thursday, January 18 informed that building owners who have encroached parking areas have been issued notices to vacate the same.

Addressing media, she said, “We meet every month to discuss about many issues. Parking problems tops the list. Taking a serious note of parking issue in the city, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has issued notices to all building owners who have encroached parking places. There are many who have ignored notices. Those buildings will be demolished as directed by the court,"

“There are a few people who say that I am against poor people and take action only against them. I do not fear anyone including builders. Any kind of violation will not be tolerated. The MCC is doing its duty. Every Mangalurean is supporting us in our work. We have made a list of around 25 shops in the heart of the city which will be demolished for encroaching parking space," she added.

Responding to a query if MCC has given a deadline to the building owners, the mayor said, “We are not issuing any deadline. People who have violated rules have already received notice. Even Mescom has been instructed to disconnect the power supply of illegally built shops. Their trade license too will be cancelled. We have the support of all the members in MCC in this issue,” she said.

TPO Balakrishna and joint director K V Jayaraj were present.

I wish Kavitha Sunil, the mayor to be the district in charge for 10 years, irrespective of any party she represent.
All leaders who wish for the betterment of Mangalore, should support her and her team.

WOW!!, I am not sure how bad roads are not on top of the mayors list.. Parking space is ?? Half done roads, broken drainage, Concrete Roads but no footpath, Potholes, Open manholes, no lane markings on road, and the list continues. I admit parking space is a problem, however I am surprised Parking space is top on the list., Start with the little things and work your way up.

Dear Mayor, we need clarity on if the part of the road in front of any shop is property of the shop or still belongs to the govt./roads dept./corporation? In daily life the shop owners are prohibiting parking by people who are not their customers causing lot of hardship to the general public. This needs urgent clarification in the best interest of the society.

Madam, with force isnt done.whether you are right or wrong.I would say ,please arrange first for a good parking places ,a park house will help everyone, there wont be later giving fault to another.Mangalore is not like before.Everyone has a car, coming to city for shopping,or any other needs. Many taxis, three wheelers moveing ,and buses.More vehicles, place is but same.not become bigger.so now think of making of its use by building a park house instead of terrorising others.Automatically people will move when place is not there. In mangalore there isnt a parking place.Where people can park?with park money the charges of of park house can be finanzed. Also make a move, than to terrorize.

Sanil Madam.. My sincere request, please do not issue new registrations to riskhas in the town.. They create a lot of issues with traffic, they have no sense when it comes to traffic rules, no indicators when turning right or left, they just stop suddenly anywhere on the middle of the road..

I have seen you many times passing by In the govt car near my office, I'm very sure you are very aware of the traffic issues in and around.

Please please take some immidiate action on this.. Humble request.

Widening and concretizing roads is the main agenda in the city development . the widened roads after acquiring private properties and concertised are now being used as parking space or as extended street vendors property . what a waste of funds and such an annoying thing . classic examples father muller hospital road, baliga store bejai to ksrtc road, konchady derebail near samrat wines ,st Agnes near vas bakery,Milagres church road ,Infosys road via kottara etc.nobody will bother .wide roads have the same carriageway width as before due to this parking on the roads and also wider roads will cause more accidents due to over speeding for example bondel church road airport road .happy widening and concreting

Good move by demolishing shops on roads, footpaths and etc. First the MCC should remove the vendors near the Bata showroom at the old service bus stand, the vendors( I mean are the ready made ladies outfits) at the parking place. Most of the vendors are north Indians or Gujaratis they should be removed from there. Even the shops at the Church building at Kodialbail nothing is done to anyone from the mechanics in the building doing work on the footpath and causing inconvenience to people using the footpath.
The MCC should not only evacuate small vendors at the Central Market but also the shops using the footpaths.

MCC should issue licences to the new buildings only if there are enough parking space built inside the buildings. Some buildings in the city construct carpark, but sell it off to restaurants and other business, which forces both the occupiers and visitors to park on either side of the road. All these illegal construction meant for carpark shoud be demolished.
Also need to question the MCC Engineers how they issued completion and occupation certificate if the builder has breached the MCC regulation.
    Jai Hind.

    Nothing will happen.
Why is the mayor waiting at the fag end of her term to do all this?
This illegal encroachment is public knowledge.. But nobody has got the guts to do it.
    This mayor is no different.
Elections are coming nearby, so need to give out such statements.

Good move. Start with unauthorised gardens in front of new buildings preventing people from parking. Shops and buildings who claim that the space belonging to corporation in front of their building is meant for their own parking. Some even go the extent of showing tile work, markings, poles etc. erected by them for "kabzafying" public property as the demarcation line.

    nothing will happen.
These illegal things are there from years.
She is finishing her term,so she's making some noise.
expected some work from her, but did nothing except raiding some massage parlours for which she got restricted by the court.

Not only demolish but also take action against your inspectors who did not act so long .

Were they getting paid from MCC or from these encroaching building owners?

Why you are not acting against your own corrupt people in MCC?

encroached parking area. trade license issued. mescom has granted power, and is billing the businesses monthly. so three layered offense by the corporation.
what about the money earned by the businesses all these years? tomorrow they will sit in some other area and make money for another 5 to 7 years. "and all in the MCC are in support of demolishing 25 shops". must be some kind of a joke
