Udupi, Jan 17: Lacs of devotees are expected to throng the city from the district and outside, for the Paryaya festival of Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji of Palimar Math on January 17 and 18. At the same time, union ministers are also scheduled to visit the district. Taking into account the sensitive nature of the district and as a precautionary measure, additionally one superintendent of police (SP), an additional SP, six deputy SPs, 13 police inspectors, 40 sub-inspectors and over a thousand other staff and home guards have been deployed for security duty.
Along with them, four contingents of Karnataka State Reserve Police, five district armed reserve police, and three anti-sabotage squads have been stationed on duty here. Experienced crime intelligence bureaus from other districts have also been assigned with duty here. Apart from these measures, CCTV cameras have been placed around Sri Krishna Math to keep watch over the developments, and police outposts have been opened near Sri Krishna Math premises and near service bus stand for the convenience of the people.
Six check posts have been opened in strategic points in the city, and arrangement has been made to keep round-the-clock vigil. These check posts are stationed at Ambagilu, MGM- Indrali, Kukkikatte, Balayipade, Ambalpady and Bannanje.
At the same time, traffic diversion has been ordered from 9 am on January 17 to 9 am on January 18. The concerned have been requested to make note of the same and cooperate with the administration.
1. Vehicles coming into the city from Mangaluru, Balayipade and Ambalpady have to reach Karavali Junction via national highway 66 and enter the city via Bannanje.
2. Service and city buses going out of the city and service bus stands have to take Bannaje route and move towards Mangaluru, Malpe and Kundapur via Karavali Junction.
3. Buses plying to and from Karkala have to pick up and disembark passengers at Manipal. They should never enter the city at any cost.
4. Service and city buses coming to the city from Malpe, Santhekatte, Brahmavar, Kundapur etc should reach Karavali Junction and enter city and service bus stands via Bannanje.
5. All buses going to Mumbai from Mangaluru should pick up passengers at Karavali Junction and directly head for Mumbai via Santhekatte.
6. Entry and parking of vehicles at Kinnimulky, Jodukatte, Lions Circle, Court Road, Diana Junction, K M Marg, Hanuman Circle, Sanskrit College Junction, Kanakdasa Road, Badagupete Road, Chittaranjan Circle, Mitra Hopsital Road, Tenkupete, LVT temple road at Tenkupete, stretch between Harishchandra Marg to Vidyodaya school, Kalsanka to Rajangana parking spot, Katte Acharya road and car street has been banned.
7. Vehicular movement and parking have been banned in areas like welcome arch Kinnimulky, Govinda Kalyana Mantap, Jodukatte Lion Circle, Diana Circle, Mitra Junction, Ideal Junction, and roads in Tenkapete.
Facility for parking of vehicles has been made at the following spots. People have been asked to make use of the same.
Near service bus stand (board high school), MGM college ground, PPC college compound in the city, Christian High School compound, Christian PU College premises left hand section, Vivekananda government higher primary school Ajjarkad, St Cicily school ground Ajjarkad, UBMC higher primary school compound, GTS school ground Udupi, Government composite high school ground Ajjarkad (opposite district judge's residence), open air theater Beedinagudde, Beedinagudde ground, north school premises opposite Corporation bank, Adi Udupi higher primary school at Adi Udupi, Volakadu school compound, Royal Garden compound, and Anantheshwara English Medium School compound.
The police department has requested the general public to extend full cooperation to the personnel of the department during the Paryaya celebrations.
