Mangaluru, Jan 16: Fulfilling the dreams of the poor to have a roof over their heads, MLA J R Lobo along with other dignitaries allotted flats to 930 beneficiaries under MCC limits who were selected through draw of lots here at Town hall on Tuesday, January 16.
Addressing the gathering MLA J R Lobo said, "It a happy moment for all of us to allot houses to the poor. Under Ashraya Scheme, as many as 930 beneficiaries will be allotted flats at Shakthinagar. In Febrauary, we will lay the foundation stone for the residential complexes depending on the availability of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Within 16 months, the work will be completed and flats will be handed over to the concerned beneficiaries. The flats on the ground floor will be allotted to disabled people,"
“The cost of each flat is Rs 5 lac. The funds will be provided by state, central government and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). The state government will contribute Rs 1.80 lac, central government Rs 1.50 lac, MCC Rs 1 lac, the beneficiary will contribute Rs 20,000 and loan to be availed by the beneficiaries is Rs 50,000 in the SC/ST category. For the general category, the state government will contribute Rs 1.20 lac, central government Rs 1.50 lac, MCC Rs 70,000, the beneficiaries contribution will be Rs 30,000 and the loan to be availed by beneficiaries is Rs 1.30 lac,” informed Lobo.
Chief whip of Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza said, "Earlier, several acres of land was available and houses were constructed. But today, there is scarcity of land and hence we are allocating houses in the form of flats where funds will be provided by the central, state government and MCC. The beneficiaries will be handed over property worth Rs 20 lac at just Rs 5 lac.”
Mayor Kavitha Sanil, MLA J R Lobo along with other dignitaries drew the lots. The first beneficiary was Kavitha, a resident of Maroli who was allotted flat number UG02, followed by Laxmi followed by many others.
The project consists of 48 blocks with 930 apartments.
Mayor Kavitha Sanil, MCC chief whip Shashidhar Hegde, MCC commissioner Nazir, MCC joint commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and others were present.
