Puttur, Jan 15: On the occasion of diamond jubilee celebrations of the college, a Science Forum of St Philomena College here, in association with Karnataka Science and Technology Academy and department of science and technology, Government of Karnataka organized a district level Science Fair on January 12 at the college auditorium.
MLA of the constituency and parliamentary secretary to the chief minister, Government of Karnataka Shakunthala T Shetty inaugurated the fair. The campus director and chairman of PG Studies Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro was chief guest. The principal Prof Leo Noronha expressed his best wishes. The correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto delivered the presidential address.
Gunashri and team presented the prayer song. The convener Chandrashekar K welcomed the gathering. The dean of science, Prof Udaya K proposed the vote of thanks. The assistant professor of chemistry Edwin S D’Souza compered the programme.
In the special guest lectures, Dr Ganesh Sanjeev, professor, department of studies and research in physics, Mangalore University and Dr J Dinakara Adiga, principal scientist, ICAR-directorate of cashew research, Puttur participated as resource persons.
In order to develop a scientific temper among the students, essay writing competition, model competition and science quiz competitions are conducted. The UG students from nine colleges of Dakshina Kannada District participated in the fair. In the essay writing competition, Nidhi of Alvas College Moodbidri bagged first prize, M Riya of Vijaya College Mulki bagged second prize and Mangala Shenoy of St Philomena College bagged third prize.
In model competition, Anush N G and Bibin Thomas of St Philomena College secured first prize, Sharath and Sukesh of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College Ujire secured second prize and Udith Kumar M and Veekshith P of St Philomena College secured third prize.
In science quiz competition, Shravya G Kumar and Vishwajith P of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College Ujire bagged first prize, Rini Johnson and Vrinda T V of St Agnes College bagged second prize and Vikas M and Namratha Padiyar of St Philomena College bagged third prize.
In the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony, the campus director and chairman of PG Studies Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro was chief guest. The principal Prof Leo Noronha presided over the ceremony.

The assistant professor of chemistry Chaithra K S presented the details of the prize winners. The convener Chandrashekar K proposed the vote of thanks. The assistant professor of physics Revathi compered the programme.
