Mangaluru, Jan 4: Leaders and members of the district BJP were arrested after they tried to protest and stage 'rasta roko' (road blockade' at the city's PVS junction here on Thursday January 4.
The BJP was protesting against the murder of right-wing activist Deepak Rao at Katipalla on Wednesday January 3.
The protestors raised slogans against the state government and demanded justice in the case. They also demanded the resignation of home minister Ramalinga Reddy and district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai over repeated cases of assaults and murders in the region.
However, before any protestor could speak, the Bunder and the Pandeshwar police arrived at the spot and rounded up the protestors.
Among those arrested were BJP leaders Vedavyas Kamath, Roopa D Bangera, Monappa Bhandary, Satish Prabhu, Poornima and others.
Traffic was affected for sometime at the busy junction.
