Mangaluru, Jan 3: The ‘Time Square Music & Dance Festival 2017’, the latest edition of Expert PU College’s gala annual event, featured top-notch presentations by the famous santoor artists Padmashree Pt Bhajan Sopori and Abhayrustum Sopori and the Gotipua dance by Abhinna Sundar Gotipua Nruthya Parishad at Expert P U College, Valachil.
The programme was inaugurated by renowned artist and art director Kasargod Chinna (Srinivas Rao S) by lighting the lamp. While he addressed the gathering, he appreciated the efforts of the college in preserving the Indianculture and tradition by organizing such cultural events. Music is an essential part of human life and has numerous magical powers making life beautiful and fills our heart with joy. He also added that the students at Expert PU College are privileged to get quality education bagged with values.
The ‘Santoor Jugalbandi’ by Padmashree Pt Bhajan Sopori and Abhayrustum Sopori from New Delhi, took the audience on a musical journey. They were accompanied by Durjay Bhaumik on Tabla and Rishi Shankar Upadhyay on Pakhawaj.
It was followed by the majestic folk dance of Odisha, Gotipua dance by artists of Abhinna Sundar Gotipua Nruthya Parishad from Puri, which enchanted the audience. The dance troupe was accompanied by Vasant Kumar Maharana (Harmonium and singing), Sukhantsahu (Singing), Surhanth Kumar Maharana( Pakhawaj) and LokhanthSaha (Manjira).
Vice-chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions Ushaprabha N Nayak welcomed the gathering and made introductory remarks. Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman of Expert Group of Institutions, felicitated the artists.
Trustee Ustaad Rafique Khan, Prof RamachandraBhat, principal of Expert Kodialbail campus and Dr N K Vijayan, principal of Expert Valachil campus were present on the occasion.
Druthi Hegde, chemistry faculty compered the programme while Abhishek Patil rendered the vote of thanks.
